A Wag for Fifi
Fifi sees a dog on her walk and feels nervous, but with Momo by her side she finds the courage to say hello.
Fifi and Momo turned down the sunny path. Up ahead, a lady walked a fluffy brown dog. Fifi froze and held onto Momo's paw.
Momo tilted his head. "Why did we stop?" he asked. Fifi whispered, "I'm not sure about that dog." Momo's tail drooped. "Dogs are bigger than foxes, " he said.
Fifi remembered what Mom had said. "Her name is Daisy, and she is very gentle." She took a deep breath. "Come on, Momo. Let's say hello together." Momo hid behind her legs. "You go first, " he squeaked.
Fifi walked slowly toward Daisy. The dog's tail wagged like a happy flag. "Let her sniff your hand, " the lady said gently. Fifi stretched out a trembling hand. Daisy gave a wet, warm lick, and Fifi giggled.
"That tickles!" Fifi laughed. She patted Daisy's soft ear. Momo peeked out and Daisy sniffed him too, making him sneeze. Then he wagged his little fox tail.
They said goodbye and walked on. Fifi's fingers still felt the tickle of Daisy's hello. Momo trotted beside her, his tail high. Fifi smiled. She had been brave, and it felt like sunshine in her chest.
