Once upon a time, there was a kind shoemaker who lived in a small village. He was very good at making shoes, but unfortunately, he didn't have much money. In fact, he was so poor that he only had enough leather left to make one pair of shoes.

One evening, the shoemaker cut the leather into the shape of the shoes and left it on his work table. He hoped to finish making the shoes the next morning. Before going to bed, he said a little prayer, asking for help from above.

The next morning, when he went to his workshop, he couldn't believe his eyes! The shoes were already made, and they were perfect! He was amazed and grateful.

Soon after, a customer came into the shop and loved the shoes so much that he paid more than usual. This made the shoemaker very happy because now he had enough money to buy leather for two more pairs of shoes.

Every night, something magical happened. When the shoemaker went to bed, the shoes he had cut out would mysteriously be finished by morning. More and more customers came to buy his shoes because they were so well-made. The shoemaker's business began to flourish, and he started making a good living.

One evening, just before Christmas, the man finished cutting the leather like he always did. This time, he turned to his wife and said, "Let's stay awake tonight and find out who's helping us?"

So, he and his wife decided to stay awake and see what happened in their workshop during the night.

At midnight, they heard a soft rustling sound. Two tiny little elves appeared in their workshop! They were wearing nothing but smiles and started working on the shoes with their tiny hands. The shoemaker and his wife watched in amazement as the elves stitched, sewed, and hammered with incredible skill and speed.

The next morning, the shoemaker's wife came up with a wonderful plan. She suggested they make clothes for the elves as a way to say thank you for their help.

"We really need to show that we are grateful that the little men have made us rich," the woman declared the following morning.

"They must be freezing because they are running around without anything on. I'll tell you what I'll do: I'll knit them a pair of stockings and make them tiny coats, vests, shirts, and pants. You can assist as well; sew them two tiny pairs of shoes."

The shoemaker agreed, and they spent the day making tiny shirts, coats, trousers, and even shoes and stockings for the elves.

That night, instead of leaving leather on the table, they laid out the clothes they had made for the elves. When the elves arrived and saw the clothes, they were so happy! They quickly put on the clothes and danced around the workshop, singing songs of joy.

“Now we are boys so fine to see,

Why should we longer cobblers be?”

After that night, the elves never came back, but the shoemaker's business continued to do well. He and his wife were happy and grateful for the help they had received. And every Christmas, they remembered the kind-hearted little elves who had helped them when they needed it most.
