The Waiting Garden
Fifi can't wait for Grandma's surprise package. With Momo's help, she finds a special way to make the time fly.
Fifi pressed her nose against the window. "Is it here yet?" she asked. Mom smiled. "Not until after lunch, sweetie."
Fifi sighed. Momo nudged her hand. "How can we make the waiting shorter?" he asked. Fifi thought for a moment. "Let's make a surprise for Grandma!"
Fifi pulled out her crayons. But the green one was just a tiny nub. "Oh no, " she said. "I need green for the grass!"
Momo tilted his head. "What if the grass is yellow today? Like in autumn?" Fifi giggled. "Silly fox, it's summer!" But she picked up yellow anyway, adding a bit of blue to make something new. Momo dipped his paw in the paint and dotted a flower. "Now it's a waiting garden, " he said.
The doorbell chimed. Fifi looked up, surprised. "Is it lunchtime already?" Mom nodded. Fifi opened the door to find a box. Inside were new paints in shiny jars. "From Grandma!" she cried.
They rushed back to their picture. Fifi dipped a brush and painted a bright blue sky. Momo made another paw print. Together they hung the picture on the fridge, just as the sun made the colors glow.
