The Dancing Timer

Fifi and Momo mix cookie dough, but the hardest part is waiting for the oven to finish.

2 min readAges 5-8

Fifi stood on a stool, carefully scooping cookie dough onto a tray. Momo's whiskers twitched as he sniffed the sweet air.

"Into the oven they go, " Mom said. "Now we wait ten whole minutes." Fifi's shoulders drooped. Momo peeked up at her. "What can we do until the timer sings?"

Fifi tapped her chin. "Let's make up a dance for the ticking timer!" She started hopping from one foot to the other. Momo tried to copy her, his little legs wobbling.

Suddenly, Momo spun too fast and bumped into the bag of flour. A white paw print appeared on the floor, and they both burst into giggles. "Your turn to lead, Momo!" Fifi laughed.

The timer finally trilled. Fifi and Momo stopped dancing, breathless and smiling. Mom opened the oven, and a warm, golden smell filled the kitchen.

Fifi carefully picked a cookie from the tray. She broke it in half and handed one piece to Momo. They blew on the steaming halves together, two little clouds rising into the air.
