The Tomato Promise
Fifi promises to water Grandpa's tomato plant, but when a fun game makes her forget, Momo helps her remember.
Fifi squeezed Grandpa's hand as he opened the front door. "I'll be back before supper, " he said, pointing to the sunny porch. "All you have to do is water the tomato plant once while I'm gone."
"I'll do it!" Fifi chirped. Momo peered at the green leaves and whispered, "What if we forget?" Fifi giggled. "I'll remember, silly fox." Grandpa waved and walked toward the market.
A bouncy red ball rolled under the porch swing. Fifi chased it, laughing and tumbling with Momo. Time flew like a butterfly. Suddenly, Momo's nose twitched. "Fifi, the plant looks a little droopy."
Fifi froze. "Oh no, I forgot!" She grabbed the heavy watering can. Water sloshed over the side as she lugged it to the porch, leaving a funny dotted trail on the steps. Momo tottered behind, catching drips on his nose.
Fifi tipped the can carefully. Cool water trickled into the pot, and the soil drank it up. Momo gave a tiny fox cheer. Later, when Grandpa came home, he bent down and smiled.
"Look, " he said, lifting a fuzzy green tomato on his palm. Fifi's eyes grew wide. She hugged Momo close, and they stood watching the little tomato glow in the golden evening light.
