The Spilled Pot
Fifi promises to carry a little sunflower home, but a playful puppy makes her forget. She must go back and make things right.
Fifi and Momo walked through the market with Dad. Dad bought a tiny sunflower in a red pot. 'Carry it home, Fifi. You're in charge, ' he said. Fifi held it tight. 'I'll be careful, ' she said.
Momo tilted his head. 'What if we see something fun?' he asked. 'I'll still hold it, ' Fifi said. 'I promise.'
They passed the park. A puppy bounced over. 'Look, Momo!' Fifi set the pot on a bench and petted the puppy. Momo barked and chased his tail with the pup. Dad called, 'Let's keep walking!' Fifi dashed after Dad, forgetting the pot.
Halfway down the street, Momo sniffed. 'Where's the flower?' Fifi gasped. She raced back. The pot lay on its side, soil scattered. The sunflower hung low. Fifi's heart thumped. 'I forgot, ' she whispered.
Dad scooped soil back into the pot. At home, Fifi watered it and placed it in the sun. 'Grow, little one, ' she said. Next morning, the stem was straight. A new leaf opened.
Momo's eyes glowed. 'You saved it!' Fifi grinned and ran a finger along the pot. 'You get water before breakfast, ' she said. 'Every day.'
