The Shiny Key
Fifi is trusted with the house key on a family walk, but when it goes missing at the park, she and Momo must remember where they left it.
Dad held out a shiny house key. "Fifi, can you be responsible for this?" he asked. Fifi nodded and slipped the key into her shorts pocket.
"What's 'responsible'?" asked Momo, his fluffy tail twitching. "It means I have to keep it safe, " Fifi said, patting her pocket with a proud smile.
At the park, Fifi wanted to do cartwheels. The pocket felt heavy, so she took off her yellow jacket and left it on a bench. After three perfect cartwheels, Dad said, "Time to head home!"
They walked two blocks before Fifi checked her pocket. Empty. Her eyes went wide. "The key!" she whispered. Momo sniffed the ground. "Where did you have it last?" Momo asked. Fifi thought hard. "My jacket! On the bench!"
They hurried back. The jacket sat exactly where Fifi had left it. Fifi reached into the pocket and pulled out the shiny key. "It's here!" she cried, hugging Momo.
Dad smiled. "You remembered. That was very responsible." Fifi held the key tight in her hand the whole walk home. When they reached the door, she handed it to Dad with a happy sigh.
